My name is Latanya, and I am an elementary teacher at ISLA. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Urban Special Education with a minor in Ethnic Studies. Along with the degree, I have 11 years of experience in both general and special education. My background in special education has had a strong influence on the teacher I am today. I believe deeply in creating a classroom where every child feels seen, valued, represented, and supported. As someone who is biracial, my own experiences growing up have also shaped the importance I place on celebrating different cultures, identities, backgrounds, and experiences within my classroom. I was born and raised in Minnesota, but I am also very proud of my Texas roots and the family and culture connected to both places. Outside of school, I share my life with my fiancé and our two dogs, who are a huge part of our family. I love baking, going to concerts, watching crime documentaries, spending time with the people I love, and pretty much anything involving the Jonas Brothers! At heart, I am someone who values relationships, family, laughter, and making people feel welcome. Those parts of who I am naturally carry over into my teaching. I love getting to know my students for who they are beyond academics and building relationships with their families throughout the year. I feel fortunate to be part of the ISLA community and to have the opportunity to learn, grow, and create meaningful memories with my students each year.
