BARNES AND NOBLE BOOK FAIR:


Thank you to all the families for coming to the Barnes & Noble Book Fair this weekend! It was fun to see all the staff, teachers and LA’s at the event too! A special thanks to the volunteers who came to help and all the donations of books to the teacher’s classroom libraries! We did get 100 signatures of ISLA students/families in attendance so be on the lookout for a non-uniform day on Friday, December 14th.

Extra-curricular Activities

The end dates for extra-curricular activities are coming up.  They are as follows:

  • Minecraft (gr. 1-2) – Monday, December 10
  • Monday Morning Chess Club – Monday, December 10
  • Games Workshop – Tuesday, December 18
  • Young Rembrandts – Wednesday, December 19
  • I Sing & Dance – Wednesday, December 12
  • Dance & Party – Thursday, December 13
  • Minecraft (gr. 3-4) – Thursday, December 13
  • Chess Club – Thursday, December 13

 

LA WINTER WEAR NEEDED:

  • Women’s XS snow pants (OR girls size 14-16)
  • Women’s S gloves & mittens
  • Women’s winter boots SIZE 5-6
  • Men’s winter gloves SIZE M or L

Please drop off any items you may have for LA use with Emily in the front office. Or you can send it to school with your student. We are also accepting good jackets, snow pants,mittens/gloves, etc. for future LA use so if you have winter wear that doesn't fit the above requests we will gladly take it.

North Jr. High Parent Information Night

NJH 6th Grade Parent registration information night is at 6:00-7:30 on Thursday,January 10.  6th Grade parents interested in registering their child at North Jr. High next year should plan on attending.

LA PROGRAM

We’re always looking for future LA Host Families.  Please contact Kim Gelperin or Meggin Gregory for more information.

It’s possible we may still need a host family for this coming spring (mid-January to end of school) - let us know if this timing might work for your family!

Wanted:Your Passion for ISLA!

Looking for a way to help support the mission and oversight of our amazing school? ISLA needs you! We are looking for interested community members, teachers, and parents to fill several upcoming vacancies on the ISLA Board for three-year terms, beginning June 30, 2019. No previous experience necessary, but we do have a specific need for expertise in finance/accounting. The Board is responsible for overseeing the general operations of the school, implementing policies and procedures, and long-term strategic and financial planning. There are a number of different committees on which Board members can serve. Click here for descriptions of the various committees.

Sibling Enrollment    

Make sure that your child receives the sibling enrollment priority they are entitled to at ISLA.  Submit an online student application for the sibling of a currently enrolled student by the sibling enrollment deadline of February 11, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.  Any student applications for a sibling received after the deadline will follow regular enrollment processes.

Winter Break Care in Aventuras!

Aventuras will be open over winter break for families in need of care.

We will be open from 8:00 am-5:30 pm on the following dates:

  • December     27 – 28
  • January 2 -4

The cost is $45.00 per day.

Students are required to bring a lunch from home and we will provide 2 snacks and day of fun activities.

Please email Aventuras at aventuras@isla-academy.org by Friday December 14th if you are in need of care for any day. Families not currently enrolled in Aventuras are eligible to register for non-school day care. 

Diá de Rube Goldberg

What: A Rube Goldberg is an overly designed contraption with a series  of steps to accomplish a simple task.  

Rube Goldberg Explanation

Who: ISLA students. Students will work in teams (2-8 people per  team). Up to 4 teams per grade level.

Info Date: Monday, Dec  Monday, December 17 at 6:30

Showcase Date: Saturday, March 16, 2018

All teams must have a parent sponsor.  There will be a parent information meeting for parents interested in sponsoring a team on Monday,December 17 at 6:30.  A training workshop will be provided in January to assist the teams with tips and ideas to help the team with the Rube Goldberg.

EXPLORATION

Hola Parents,

As our 2018 comes to an end, our Exploration class has been busy working in creating critical thinkers and inventors! Students have done a great job making connections to their unit of inquiry and showing off their creativity! With the new year, the Exploration class is in need in replenishing supplies.

List of Items in Need:

  • Recycle: Paper rolls (gift wrapping, toilet, paper towels), egg cartons, plastic containers (variety), plastic bottles (variety)
  • General materials: Building  blocks, marbles, dominoes, balls (variety), CDs
  • Building Materials: Duct tape (lots of tape), painter’s tape,  masking tape, scotch tape, PVC, rope (variety), styrofoam
  • Arts & Crafts: Felt, fabric, ribbon, straws, yarn, googly eyes, wood sticks, corks, magnets, velcro, any creative craft material is welcomed!
  • Containers: Clear containers to organize materials
