Peaceful protesters hold signs to support families and immigrants.

Dear ISLA families,

After thoughtful consideration, ISLA will be closed on Friday, January 23 in recognition of a community day of protest and action.  ISLA is so unique and would not exist without immigrants. There is so much fear right now amongst our staff and families – even for those who have gone through expensive, rigorous, and extensive processes to obtain visas or citizenship. We are hurting, and we need a minute of respite.

This is such a beautiful and distinct community of people from all over the world who have made a life here with our shared values of global thinking, mutual care, and thoughtful scholarship. I am so deeply grateful for how families and staff show up for each other, and I believe that allowing our staff this day is another way we can demonstrate our solidarity.

Aventuras will also be closed on January 23 and we recognize that this creates a challenge for families. Our Aventuras staff are often the ones who don’t get as many chances for rest and self-care. We continue to appreciate the community support to provide groceries and pay the bills for those unable to work. For staff that depend on the hourly income, we are looking to find ways to continue to provide support through our GoFundMe and Support Needs/Offers Form - both Families and Staff. Your generosity means so much, both practically and emotionally.

Many thanks for being absolutely the best community,

Molly
