Volunteer Appreciation

 Date: May 31, 2018
Time: 2:30 pm
Location: ISLA Library

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers!  Come enjoy a special time just to celebrate all you have done for us.

   Hello ISLA Families:

We are 6th graders at ISLA and would love for you to come to our amazing event! This is our last unit called exhibition. We picked one of the UN Global Goals as our issue for the whole exhibition unit! (The Global Goals for Sustainable Development are 17 goals to help solve big problems in our world: www.globalgoals.org)  We chose Zero Hunger (Goal 2) and took steps to create awareness in our community. Our action plan is to go and volunteer at Feed my Starving Children. Our goal is to have at least 100 volunteers come and serve!  We are hoping that the super caring ISLA community can help us achieve this goal. Here are the steps you can take to participate:

  1. Register your family on Saturday, June 2 from 9:00-11:00 am in Chanhassen (https://volunteer.fmsc.org/Register/site/PackingSessionSearchResults.aspx?n=1&l=2&s=&b=2018-06-01&e=2018-06-30&mode=0#.WwbsXEgvyeE )
  2. Fill out our Google Form to help us keep track of our progress https://goo.gl/forms/fksGHswlFEAAmRev2
  3. Wear any ISLA gear to show our school pride at the event.
  4. Make a difference by serving with us on June 2nd! (If you are not able to attend, consider taking your own action to fight hunger and tell us about it!)

2018-19 School Supplies

Imagine being done with school supply shopping for next year before summer is even here! ISLA PTO has partnered with SchoolKidz to make that possible for you!

The process is very easy. Simply go online to the website listed in the flyer and order your kit for your child/children. It will be delivered directly to school and will be waiting for them in their classroom on the first day. The best part is a portion of your school supply order will come back to ISLA PTO. It’s a win-win! This program is optional and is provided as a service to make your life simpler! Please see the attached form for additional details.

Order date: Opens April 23rd and closes June 22nd   Click here for order form.

If you have any questions please contact Betsey Palmgren at betseypalmgren@gmail.com.

2018-19 Lunch Program Volunteers

The Lunch Program at ISLA offers you and your family a wonderful opportunity to visit and interact with your child and their classmates.  Past volunteers have greatly enjoyed participating.  So will you!

  • WHO can volunteer?  Moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  Anyone, really.  Just ask! No experience in necessary.   You can volunteer once a month or every week.  It’s up to you. And, no, you do not need to speak Spanish!
  • WHAT do they do?  The volunteer helps in several areas, such as distributing food and milk, opening children’s lunch packages, and monitoring tables.  The food manager will help you.
  • WHERE do I go in the building?  Sign in at the ISLA office and proceed to the gym/cafeteria.
  • WHEN do I show up?  The shifts run from 11:15am to 1:00pm.
  • WHY should I help?  Because it’s fun!  The kids delight in seeing family members. Do you miss your kindergartner?
  • HOW do I volunteer?  Simply get in contact with the Lunch Program Coordinator, Ginnie Pollen

2017-18 LA Highlights – Cristina

LA NAME: Cristina San Segundo

FALL HOST FAMILY: Kamara

SPRING HOST FAMILY: Hoff

Home City/Country: Avila, Spain

GRADES YOU WORKED WITH THIS YEAR: Kinder, first, and fifth grade

A FAVORITE MEMORY OF THIS YEAR: Meeting new people, celebrating thanksgiving and Halloween, experiencing American culture with host families, and traveling around the US.

WHAT WAS SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T EXPECT LIVING IN AMERICA? The lack of public transportation was challenging to move around. Meeting locals was challenging too, I was surprised to see how nice and helpful the ISLA community was!

ANY OTHER THINGS TO NOTE? It was an amazing experience that I would totally recommend!

Plans for summer and next year? Traveling and looking for a teaching job anywhere!

Join your fellow incoming kinder parents and students for a fun opportunity for to meet new ISLA families and families with new incoming kinder students.  It will be a great way for kids to meet their classmates so there is a familiar face on that first day of school and parents to get connected.  We encourage current families who have an incoming kinder student to attend and be willing to meet the new families and answer any questions they may have about what to expect at ISLA.  This a a great first step at building ISLA's fantastic community!  Contact Ginnie Pollen (noelandginnie@mac.com or 612-816-1176) if you have any questions.
