Spring Program Highlights from 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade.

Queridas familias,

The Minnesota Department of Education conducted a routine audit of our special education programming and facility this spring, and everything went very well. However, upon further analysis of the report, our caseload, and the resource room, we have come to the conclusion that we really need more space for this department, as well as for our part time service providers in the areas of occupational therapy, speech, social work, and school psychology.

As a result,  I have had conversations with the owner of Mis Amigos and Compañeros, and have decided that we will not renew their lease on the classroom space which they have been leasing from us.  In addition, ISLA will begin administering and managing the before/after school care services provided by Compañeros, which will allow us to infuse much more International Baccalaureate  input into the programming and staffing of this care.  Please use the same registration form for next year which was sent out to families from Compañeros/Mis Amigos this week.

We know that this will affect a few ISLA/Mis Amigos families for next year, and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  Mis Amigos is currently looking at options for the Hopkins site, as well as other options, and are close to finding a solution.

Atentamente,

Jeremy

2018-19 Lunch Program Volunteers

The Lunch Program at ISLA offers you and your family a wonderful opportunity to visit and interact with your child and their classmates.  Past volunteers have greatly enjoyed participating.  So will you!

  • WHO can volunteer?  Moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  Anyone, really.  Just ask! No experience in necessary.   You can volunteer once a month or every week.  It’s up to you. And, no, you do not need to speak Spanish!
  • WHAT do they do?  The volunteer helps in several areas, such as distributing food and milk, opening children’s lunch packages, and monitoring tables.  The food manager will help you.
  • WHERE do I go in the building?  Sign in at the ISLA office and proceed to the gym/cafeteria.
  • WHEN do I show up?  The shifts run from 11:15am to 1:00pm.
  • WHY should I help?  Because it’s fun!  The kids delight in seeing family members. Do you miss your kindergartner?  Maybe you want to see immersion in action and hear your child speaking Spanish.
  • HOW do I volunteer?  Simply get in contact with the Lunch Program Coordinator, Ginnie Pollen

Thank You to the PTO and families!

Thank you PTO and families for all the pampering this week for Teacher Appreciation.  We all feel your love an appreciation and are thankful that we have such a wonderful community supporting us!

¡Gracias!
