Join the ISLA Board of Directors!

Looking for a way to support the mission and shape the future of our amazing school?Join the ISLA Board of Directors!  The ISLA Board of Directors has an unexpected mid-year vacancy and is seeking a candidate to serve on the Board for the remainder of the open seat’s term (starting immediately and running through June 30, 2020) and beyond.  We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience in finance or education, but such expertise is not required.The Board is responsible for overseeing the general operations of the school, implementing policies and procedures, and long-term strategic and financial planning. The Board meets in the evening on the third Tuesday of each month.

Serve as ISLA's Assistant Treasurer!

In addition, the Board is seeking an individual with finance expertise to serve in the volunteer officer role of Assistant Treasurer. The Assistant Treasurer assists ISLA’s Treasurer with financial oversight and reporting for the school and serves as a member of the Finance Committee of the ISLA Board.  The Assistant Treasurer need not be a member of the ISLA Board.

PARENT DISCUSSION ROUND UP

The ISLA PTO would like to help link our school families to parent education opportunities in the community. We will share those opportunities through this newsletter. If you have any recommendations or are aware of other opportunities in the community please forward to PTOchair@isla-academy.org to be added to the parent discussion roundup in the newsletter.

Monthly Meet-Up

Do you wish you had a group of parents you could talk with to discuss the joys and challenges of raising your 3-9 year-old child? Do you want the parent discussion benefit of an ECFE class but cannot commit to a weekly session? Meet and connect once a month with other parents and dive deep into your hot parenting topics. This parent-only class will be led by a licensed parent educator. The full 1½ hours will be devoted to learning and sharing ideas and connecting with other parents during supportive group discussions.

ARE YOU GONNA GO MY WAY?? DRIVERS WANTED

Sign up to help take an LA to their destination and get to know them a bit during the car ride. It’s a quick and easy way to find out about different countries, and meet these young adults who have captured your children’s hearts while they are in school! Their phone numbers are included - as soon as you sign up to offer a ride, please text them a message with your name and the designated meeting place (be as specific as you can - Juan’s Dad with a baseball cap on standing outside the library, or Amelia’s Mom wearing red shirt out in the ISLA lobby, etc.) They will respond as soon as they are able. Remember, they aren’t allowed cell phones in classrooms, so please be patient. It’s a great way to get to know these amazing young adults! Picture Day Volunteers Needed

Fun volunteer opportunity! ISLA is looking for a few volunteers to help picture day run smoothly by organizing the kids before pictures and help smooth collars, hair, etc. Spanish is not required. Signup below! Thank you!

Kinder, 3rd and 6th grades will have their pictures taken on Thursday, September 26. Grades 1-2 and 4-5 will have their pictures taken Friday, September 27.  Students may wear the outfit of your choice on their picture day.  They do not need to wear uniforms.

Flyers will be coming home in the near future.

International Day of Peace

September 21st is the United Nation’s International Day of Peace. ISLA students and staff will be observing this on Thursday, September 19th.  Students and staff should wear white on this day.

Puerto Rican Picnic - September 22, 2019 

We have 4 openings for a 2019 Fiesta de la Primavera Great Gathering on September 22.  Join 5 ISLA families for an authentic Puerto Rican Picnic! Food and beverages (and adult beverages) will be provided by Ezekiel’s (4th grade) Mom and Abuelita who are from Puerto Rican descent. Marketing/Communications Committee

The ISLA Marketing/Communications Committee is looking for members interested in helping promote ISLA within the community, developing and maintaining the ISLA brand, and coordinating with the Executive Director the communication process to the ISLA community.

Curriculum Night/State of the School Event

Thursday, September 26th, 6:30-8:30 pm is curriculum night and our State of the School Event.  This is an event for PARENTS/GUARDIANS only.  You will learn about the themes your child will explore this year, teacher expectations,homework, routines and more.   Each grade level will conduct two identical presentations, allowing those with children in more than one grade level to attend both presentations. We will begin with an all-school presentation in the multi-purpose room at 6:30 pm.  This will be a time to introduce all ISLA staff.  
Presentations will take place in the classroom. We hope to see you then!
