Through Girls on the Run, participants build:

  • Self-confidence & resilience
  • Strong friendships and teamwork skills
  • Healthy habits for mind and body
  • A powerful belief that they can do hard things

No running experience needed—just a willingness to try, grow, and shine! This program is about so much more than running; it’s about empowering girls to be their very best selves.

Two children work together on a craft project, building a structure with popsicle sticks and a cardboard tube.

IB Accreditation Visit Next Week!

Every 5 years, ISLA works closely with the International Baccalaureate organization to renew our accreditation as an IB World School. We will have our (virtual) visit next week from Monday through Wednesday, with our IB program team observing in classrooms, talking to teachers, students, families, and Board Members. We invite you to join us virtually for the culminating celebration on Wednesday, March 11 at 3:00pm when we will hear some initial conclusions from our program evaluators.

Friendly Reminder About Smart Watches

Hello Dear Families!

With so much happening in the world, many families find comfort in having their students wear a smart watch with capability to call home if needed. We're noticing an increased use of smart watches at school and would love your collaboration to support their appropriate use during the school day so that we can find the healthy use of these important tools.

I am listing our school policy below, as a friendly reminder. Our hope is that watches and phones are turned off or on school mode for the entirety of the school day. If a teacher notices that a student is using their watch or phone for texting, games, photos, or calls, they will give one warning. If the use persists, they will bring the phone or watch to me and we will ask you to pick it up from the office.

Of course, if your student has an emergency and needs to contact you, they are welcome in the care room to call home.

It would be so helpful if you review these expectations at home and we will do the same at school starting next week.

Thank you so much!

Kim

Cell phone and other electronics at ISLA

Because of the potential for damage and/or theft, students are strongly encouraged not to bring cell phones/smartwatches or other electronic devices. Cell phones/smartwatches or other electronic devices are prohibited from being used during the school day to make calls, text (parents or peers), take pictures or play games. School day is described as any time during the day when your child is in class, recess, lunch, or any other type of activity that takes place on school grounds.

Students that have cell phones/smartwatches in case of an emergency should keep them turned off (or put in airplane mode) and in their backpack. If a student is seen with a cell phone/smartwatches or other electronic items that are being used as described above will have the device confiscated. It will be held in the office or with the teacher until the end of the day. Continued abuse of this policy will result in a parent/student/administrator conference.
