We are so lucky at ISLA to have the gift of an IB education, particularly in times that are challenging and divisive. This week, I have had the privilege to observe preschool community members, kindergarten artists, 1st grade problem solvers, 2nd grade engineers, 3rd grade innovators, 4th grade entrepreneurs, and 5th grade activists working on varied, meaningful, and immersive learning. When I am particularly dragging, walking through our classrooms and hallways, seeing thoughtful learners in action brings me a renewed sense of hope for the generation we are growing right here at ISLA.

As IB learners, we are CARING. You have seen in so many ways how students, parents, teachers, and community members show up for one another, whether bringing snacks or filling the CARE room with new tools, providing hugs and listening ears, and offering encouraging words.

We are REFLECTIVE. We see the world not only through our own eyes, but we wonder how we may make a difference. We reflect on where we may have room to grow and learn. We try our best to improve ourselves and the world around us.

We are RISK-TAKERS. We explore ways to stretch ourselves, accomplish great feats, and enjoy the rewards of our big efforts.

We are BALANCED. We play, work, and rest. We know that our energy and efforts must be balanced with self-care and time for rejuvenation.

We are ISLA: We may come from different places, different traditions, and different perspectives -- and we enrich each other every single day.

* Winter Break will run December 18, 2027 - January 2, 2028.
* The Board expects to finalize a 2027-2028 calendar in January 2027, likely aligned with the majority-enrolled district at that time.

Dear School Community,
We want to share a brief update and extend our deep gratitude for the incredible support you have shown through GoFundMe.To date, over $26,000 the $33,000 raised has been used to support immediate needs, including rent, groceries, and legal fees. These funds have provided essential stability during an incredibly challenging time.
As the crisis continues, we anticipate that needs may increase in the weeks ahead. We are profoundly grateful for the care, generosity, and solidarity our community continues to show. Your support has already made a meaningful difference, and it continues to carry us forward.In addition, we want to ensure that students and families who may need support know how to access help:
Thank you for standing with and caring for one another during this time.
With gratitude,
The ISLA Support Task Force
