Fundraising Committee Corner

The Fundraising Committee would like to introduce La Brigada de los Abuelos (The Grandparents Brigade)! Here is a note from the group:

As grandparents of students at ISLA, we have been impressed by what the school has to offer our grandchildren and the community at large, and we would like to help support that mission. Upon talking with members of the community, we felt it would be beneficial to engage fellow grandparents, extended families, and any other interested parties in becoming more involved in the school, so we are launching La Brigada de los Abuelos.

Our goals are:

  1. To support the fundraising efforts of the school with a focus on corporate development.
  2. To reinforce existing programming and to support new programming that would benefit students and the school.
  3. To increase extended family involvement with the school.
  4. To increase connections with the broader community that deepen the cultural experiences of students and secure additional support.

We are planning to meet in early April to discuss possibilities and get to know each other. Please share this information with the grandparents in your kids' lives, and have them reach out to Abby at awalker@abbeydelsol.com or 612-889-5607. Thank you!

Trimester 2 Progress Report

Dear ISLA Families,

We are reaching out today as your child's progress report for Term 2 is now available on Toddle.

We are delighted to present your child’s progress report through Toddle, our platform that coincides with what we value and how we want to report on student learning.  At ISLA, our assessments aim to empower “the whole child by nurturing the development of personal growth, strong character, academic excellence and global vision.”

Our unique report card reflects our mission as an IB World School, yet also incorporates our own design and nuances with our values as a Spanish Immersion community. This progress report provides a reflection of your child’s learning process rather than a final product.

At ISLA, teachers assess every day through observation, documentation, and reflection.  Assessment is a tool for students, teachers, and families to understand overall progress, strengths and developmental needs. Feedback is a year-long endeavor that forms the cornerstone of our teaching and learning methodology.

We believe that the purpose of assessment is to enhance learning through a holistic approach. We see progress reports as more than a grade; rather, we see these evaluations as an opportunity to communicate meaningful action relevant to learning. This progress report is also an opportunity to inform the community about IB essential elements such as the IB learner profile, key concepts, and approaches to learning.  We hope that you will find that our progress reports provide insight into how your ISLA student is developing in the spirit of the IB’s mission as an “inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young person who will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”

Fiesta de la Primavera 2023

Thank you to everyone who supported the ISLA PTO, our LA program, and our ISLA community through your donations and participation in our fundraising events. As you know, we were able to host 9 LA’s this year, who play an imperative role at ISLA each day. Thanks to this amazing community, we are excited to announce that the Fiesta de la Primavera fundraised nearly $60K gross revenue! With this, and our success at Give to the Max last November, we are hoping to support another 9 LA’s for the next school year!

THANK YOU to this amazing community for your generosity and support! We couldn’t do this without you. If you still want to get in on some of the amazing Great Gatherings, there is still time.

Great Gatherings still available!!

We still have a handful of really fun events available from Fiesta!! We’d love to see these fill up more. Many events are hosted by ISLA staff, teachers and LA’s. It's a great opportunity to get together before summer break! If you are interested in booking a spot, please go to GiveSmart.
