Sixth Grade Visitor

Last Tuesday, ISLA hosted a dynamic visitor to guide our 6th graders in practices related to restorative justice and understanding how our values shape our thinking about complex issues. Dr. Raj Sethuraju, an associate professor from the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Metro State University, led 6th graders in circle conversations about controversial issues focusing on how to acknowledge multiple points of view, skills we value deeply at our school. Dr. Raj is a connection from last year’s 6th grade Primary Years Program Exhibition (PYPx) where he served as a community expert being interviewed about the UN Sustainable Development Goal: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. We hope to build on these important concepts and skills with future collaboration. Thank you, Dr. Raj!

Student Absence Reporting

ISLA now has 3 ways in which you can let us know that your child will be absent or late to school. You can send an email to attendance@isla.school, enter in PickUp Patrol, or call the attendance line at 952-746-6020. Please remember to give the reason for your child's absence. If we do not give a reason for their absence, it will be considered unexcused per ISLA's attendance policy. If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, please email covid19reporting@isla.school as well.

Give to the Max Day is coming November 17th! This is Minnesota’s biggest giving campaign of the year and ISLA PTO’s only Fall fundraiser. Our ISLA PTO Give to the Max goal for this year is $25,000!

We will have prizes for the 3 classrooms who have the highest participation rate in the campaign (based on the percentage of families that participate by donating any dollar amount, not the amount raised). More information on classroom prizes will be coming soon!

Early giving is welcomed as cash prizes are awarded to organizations daily based on daily participation. Go to this link https://www.givemn.org/organization/Islapto and donate now!

In March, the PTO is holding their biggest fundraiser & party of the year, FIesta de la Primavera! The Planning Committee is looking for volunteers to help with preparation for the event... Gathering donations for the silent auction, decorations, sharing info across different platforms and many more options big & small! If you are interested in finding out more about Fiesta, we are holding our first committee meeting by zoom on November 9 at 6:30 p.m.

No commitment is required by attending the planning committee, so please stop by and see what it's all about! If you are able to help, but cannot join the meeting please email Molly at fiesta@isla.school. Thank you!

LA Host Families

We are looking for new host families for our 9 amazing LA’s for the spring semester (mid January to mid June). The LA would need their own bedroom, but often share bathrooms with the family. Hosting is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a new culture and hear more Spanish in your home! The ISLA community supports each host family with designated aunt and uncle families, and rideshare options are available as well. Please email islaLAprogram@gmail.com if you feel your family would be a good fit in hosting one of our Language Ambassadors!

Transportation Hub

We know how eager ISLA bus families are to get the app that will allow them to track their student's bus. The GPS system has been installed on the Pride Transportation buses, but the processes are not in place yet to utilize this information.

Each week on Thursday, transportation additions, changes or deletions are submitted to Pride and will begin the following Tuesday. Please check Transversa360 each Monday to see if any of the changes have affected your student(s). If you need information about how to add the Transversa360 app to your phone, please contact Emily in the office at esmith@isla.school.

Just a reminder, at drop off and pick up times, buses have the right of way. Cars should always yield to the buses.

Aventuras Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

Aventuras will be closed from Wednesday, November 23rd - Friday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Aventuras staff will be with their friends and family. They will re-open on Monday, November 28th.

Dear Families,

We'd love to thank you for all your unconditional support and help. As you know, we have our El Nido Programming (Preschool). We would appreciate your referrals to other families interested or looking for a preschool program. We are accepting children from 33months-5 years old. If you know of an interested family, you could email Gianna Castro at gcastro@isla.school to let her know.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
