The Spirit Store is closing Sunday, September 11. This will be the last time it’s open until November! Delivery will be to the student’s classroom in early October. Please indicate the student name and teacher in the order comments for expedited delivery! If you have multiple students at the school, put the oldest child’s name.

Please note, due to limited inventory in some colors/sizes, the store is updated to reflect what is currently available.

Click to order. https://isla-pto.square.site/

Did you know that the Spirit Store is a fundraiser for the PTO? Your purchase of uniform-approved shirts and sweatshirts will help support PTO sponsored events such as the back to school picnic, provide funds for classroom supplies and extra-curricular scholarships, and also supports the LA program.

What’s new this year?

  • Our school hours have changed: Our school day is now from 9:00 to 3:50. This year we will continue with the drop off and pick up procedures, adjusted for the new times. You can find the procedures and diagrams in the following link: ISLA Drop off - Pick up Logistics
  • We are delighted to announce that we are making a significant change in our school wide math curriculum. Our assessment task force and Academics Committee led a pilot and product comparison last year, and Envision Mathematics was the overwhelming winner, chosen for its high rigor and levels of student engagement, the direct links to inquiry and IB best practices, as well as dynamic opportunities for differentiation.
  • We are also overjoyed to have 9 Language Ambassadors this year – the largest group ever – and we are looking forward to working with this wonderful new group! Thank you – PTO and host families for all your support.
  • This last spring and summer, we were able to finish the projects for a more enhanced usage of the campus, including play fields, the first stage of our vegetable garden, and a new computer lab.

On Thursday, September 15th, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, ISLA will host our annual Curriculum Night for all staff and families. Each teacher will conduct two identical presentations, allowing those with children in more than one grade level to attend both presentations.

Once again, I would like to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year here at ISLA. We look forward to continuing our work in academic excellence and growth through language immersion and fostering global citizenship through the International Baccalaureate program. I wish you and your family all the best in the new school year.

Volunteer Opportunity - ISLA Assistant Treasurer

Do you love numbers, spreadsheets, and fiscal responsibility?  Do you want to help ensure a bright financial future for ISLA??  We need you!

ISLA's Finance Committee is seeking a volunteer to serve as Assistant Treasurer this school year.  The Assistant Treasurer serves on the Finance Committee, which meets monthly, and supports the Treasurer in his financial oversight role. The Assistant Treasurer does NOT need to be a member of the ISLA school board. An ideal candidate would have a general familiarity with financial and budgeting concepts, but deep financial expertise is not required. Please contact Liz Crouse at lcrouse@isla.school or 612-716-7448 if you are interested in learning more about this role.

Announcement to Parents about PickUp Patrol

Parents,

Starting again this fall, we will be using a system called PickUp Patrol to help us track dismissals. PickUp Patrol (PUP) will save us a great deal of time here in the office and will reduce interruptions in our classrooms—while also providing you with a convenient way to make changes to your children’s dismissal plans

Most importantly, it will help us ensure that our students are safely dismissed to their correct after-school destinations.

Use the PUP web app for:

ATTENDANCE: Notify the school office when your child will be absent, arriving late or leaving early.

DISMISSAL CHANGES: Submit changes to your child’s regular dismissal plans. For example:

●      A student normally rides the bus, but is getting picked up today.

●      A student usually goes to aftercare, but is leaving early for an appointment.

How it works:

Your child is assigned a dismissal plan at the start of the year. This is the plan they will regularly follow on normal days. We call this the Default Plan.

Whenever you have a change to the Default Plan, you’ll submit a change through the PUP app. When the plan is submitted, the school will be notified and your child’s teacher will relay the change to them.

All plan changes should be entered in PickUp Patrol. Notes, emails or phone calls will not be accepted for changes after 9/6/2022, except in emergencies.

Getting started with PUP:

  1. REGISTER: You will receive a registration email from PickUp Patrol with a link to set up your account. The PUP web app is free to parents and you can use it from your smartphone or computer. PUP is not accessed through the app stores. Instead, for easy access, follow the instructions in your registration email for how to add it to your phone’s home screen.
  1. ENTER DEFAULT PLANS: Once you register, log into your PickUp Patrol account by 9/6/2022 to confirm your child’s default dismissal plan. It’s important that you complete this step so that we can accurately dismiss your children.

Thank you for using PUP to make safety a priority and to ensure our dismissal process is efficient for all our students

If you have any questions, please first check the PUP FAQ page. If you still need help, contact us here in the office at esmith@isla.school or jgielen@isla.school or PickUp Patrol at support@pickuppatrol.net.
