RE: 2021-2022 School Year Start Date

Queridas familias,

This week we are finishing the first week of summer school and the second of three sessions of summer camp, and the kids are having a great time.  Next week will be the last week of school ever for students at 5959 Shady Oak Road, which is of course very bittersweet!

We are so excited to start the school year in our beautiful new building, but there is still much to do until we are teaching there.  Our team has been very busy with the moving process, doing final packing of boxes and materials, removing projectors, whiteboards, audio systems, etc, and in general salvaging anything of value and utility.   While we are fortunate to have had a mid-winter move in anticipation of this day, there is still more to do.

As we communicated previously, the construction at the new building is behind schedule due to permitting issues, but they are now making steady progress. The required demolition has been completed, walls have been built and are being painted, and final low voltage wiring is being installed.  However, many challenges remain within our global supply chain, and because of these delays and the permitting holdups, we will still have to push the start date of our school year forward. At our July 20th board meeting I will be asking the Board of Directors to approve an updated calendar for the 2021-2022 school year, with a new start date of September 8th for Pre-K, September 9th for grades 1-6, and September 10th for Kindergarten.

It is worth noting that 8 out of 9 of our neighboring districts are starting after Labor day, and we are still well within our statutorily required instructional time for the school year.  In addition, we have an ample number of extra instructional days in case we need to cancel for inclement weather.

Atentamente,

Jeremy
