RE: Strategic Plan Listening Session
I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and were able to spend time together as much as possible in the middle of this pandemic. While we gathered and gave thanks for our many gifts, comforts, and benefits, it was still a struggle to not be together with the entire family, and I think this made it all the more poignant at the time. This time of year is always a reflective period, and I am struck with how thankful I am for all of you, the ISLA community. As you know, the hallmark of any successful school is a strong sense of community, and parental involvement, and you all certainly fit that description.
As we left for break, we had to say goodbye for the last segment of presencial learning that we had at ISLA--our Kindergarten through Second graders, and this was difficult. It was especially challenging when one of our First Graders said “Adios, nos vemos el año que viene” (Goodbye, see you next year), because sadly we knew that it was true. At the same time, we know that this is temporary, and that we will get through this. I know that our teachers are doing a great job--outstanding, really (as are you- the parents- as “co-teachers”), but we will still be watching the data trends carefully, and are trying very hard to get the ISLA students back in the building as soon as is feasible.
In the midst of all of this, there are many other reasons to celebrate, and it is clear that ISLA’s future is bright. The planning for the move to the new building is coming right along, and as it starts to accelerate, we are getting more and more excited with the curricular possibilities at the new space. I would encourage the entire ISLA community to tune in for our next Board meeting on December 15th, when the ISLA Affiliated Building Company and their architect, LSE Architects will present the latest design remodeling plan for the new space.
I would also like to invite you all to a Strategic Planning Listening session next week, on Thursday, December 10th, at 6:30pm, to roll out a draft of the updated Strategic Plan. Here is the link: Strategic Planning Listening Session: 12/10/2020
Thank you for everything you are doing to help us on this journey.
If you had your child's school pictures taken in October or November, they were delivered to ISLA this week. You may pick them up from Emily in the office.
Make sure that your child receives the sibling enrollment priority they are entitled to at ISLA. Submit an online student application for the sibling of a currently enrolled student by the sibling enrollment deadline of February 15, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Any student applications for a sibling received after the deadline will follow regular enrollment processes.
