Happy Thanksgiving to One and All

During this time it is difficult to be thankful for anything with all that is going on in the world. We wanted to take this time to say thank you to our ISLA community for all of your support in ensuring that all students and staff are safe. Have a safe and healthy Thanksgiving break. ¡Mil gracias por todo!

To: Families of ISLA students who will be attending school during the distance learning period
From: ISLA Administration & Health Office

Hello ISLA Families,

We are very happy and excited that your child will be able to come to ISLA during the time of distance learning. We want to continue to make sure our school environment is a safe place for all our staff and students who are here in person. Please follow the recommendations on the MDH Decision Tree for guidelines regarding exclusion from school. Reach out to the School Nurse (tnelson@isla.school) or the COVID team (covid19reporting@isla.school) if anyone in your household has symptoms, is getting tested for COVID, or has been identified as a close contact. In any of these situations, your child should remain home from school. The School Nurse will be in contact with you regarding what the next steps are.

In addition, we are strongly encouraging you to follow the new Executive Orders put in place by Governor Walz on November 19, 2020. Per E.O. 20-99, “Minnesotans are encouraged to stay close to home and are strongly discouraged from engaging in unnecessary travel, particularly to other states or countries”. In addition, “Persons arriving in Minnesota from other states or countries, including returning Minnesota residents, are strongly encouraged to practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival by limiting their interactions to their immediate household”. Please remember that your interactions and activities ultimately affect more than just your household. Each time you have contact with other people, your social bubble grows larger, and the impact of your actions increases dramatically. If your child is coming into the ISLA building, they are bringing with them the cumulative effect of all of those contacts. This could potentially place other students and staff members at risk. Many of our staff and students are not willing to subject themselves to this increased risk of exposure. So, we are imploring you to follow these recommendations made by Governor Walz, and stay close to home. If you decide to travel outside of Minnesota, please self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival, and remain home from ISLA for this 2 week period.

Thank you to each one of you for being personally responsible, and for making it possible for this in person learning and care for children to continue during this time. We appreciate your understanding! Take care and be well!
