Queridas familias, 

ISLA Learning Plan Update:   As you know, on Tuesday, September 29th,  the ISLA Board approved Phase 2 of ISLA’s  Safe Learning Plan; therefore, we are looking forward to welcoming the return of our 2nd Graders for in person learning starting on October 12th, joining the K-1 group Monday through Thursday.  The 2nd grade Friday schedule will still be distance learning.  The ISLA Board will look  at the Phase 3 model during our October Board meeting and decide if we will pivot to this model on November 9th (Phase 3 is a Hybrid A/B model; A= Monday/Tuesday, and B= Wednesday/Thursday, with Friday as distance learning).  A/ B Groups will be sent out to all families.

Social Emotional Support:  (Video # 4 out now)  We know this is a difficult time, and managing your own professional responsibilities, family dynamics, AND a distance learner has enormous challenges.  Therefore, we have contracted with Amy Vogel, our Occupational Therapist, to produce some helpful videos-- chock full of coping skills and ideas for establishing routines, and other strategies for helping our distance learners succeed.  She produced these resources especially for ISLA, with our young immersion learners in mind.  This week the focus is on attention and learning. Building/Relocation News!!  We are very pleased to announce that the purchase agreements have been signed for the new property!  This is great news, as this new site will offer many new curricular opportunities for our ISLA students and allow us to extend and expand our mission, as well as allow us to sustain our programming into the future!  The address is:  5350 W 78th Street Edina, MN 55439

We look forward to discussing the building and expansion further at the listening session on Monday, October 12th, at 6:00.

Community PTO Meeting

JOIN US! The first community PTO meeting will be held October 13th at 6:30 by Zoom.  Everyone is welcome to attend and we will be having a speaker, topic TBD. The PTO board is looking forward to a great year ahead, even if it is an unusual one!  More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Fiesta de la Primavera - ISLA PTO LA Program Fundraising Event

Wrapping up last year!

Last Spring, the Fiesta Committee was optimistic the Fiesta de la Primavera would be rescheduled to late Summer or early Fall. Due to the current environment, we will not be able to reschedule the Fiesta de la Primavera 2020 event. We thank the entire ISLA community for supporting the ISLA PTO and Language Ambassador Program with their contributions last Spring. A big Thank You to all that donated their time, made donations, purchased a raffle ticket, and/or bid on items in our online auction! While the event didn't meet the fundraising goal due to the pandemic, thanks to this AWESOME community we raised $33,000! These funds support the 4 Language Ambassadors that we hope to have supporting ISLA starting in January.

While Spring might seem far away, the event planning typically begins in the Fall for Fiesta de la Primavera. Due to the uncertainties with COVID-19, the ISLA PTO Board made the difficult decision to reshape fundraising this year knowing that we are unable to have the Fiesta de la Primavera in Spring 2021. This Fall you can expect more fundraising focus on Give to the Max day - November 19, 2020 - to support the 8-9 Language Ambassadors we hope to bring into ISLA’s classrooms in the 2021-2022 school year.
