Supplies in the Health Office

If your student has medication or supplies in the Health Office, those items will be sent home in your child's backpack on the last day of school. If you would like to make other arrangements for picking up these supplies, please contact the School Nurse at tnelson@isla.school with specific requests. Hope everyone has a happy, healthy summer!

Exhibition

Central Idea: The justice system can change over time if we work together as a team.

This year's exhibition was an opportunity for sixth graders to take action on their learning.  After many weeks of inquiring into the United Nations Goal  #16: Peace, justice and strong institutions, this morning three of our sixth grade boys had the opportunity to take action. After interviewing two representatives of the Hopkins Police Department, the boys learned about many activities that the police department does to serve our community. Sargent Greg Pilon explained that oftentimes the police interact with the community by participating in school events like field day. The boys invited the officers to be a part of ISLA's field day as an opportunity to share about their exhibition with younger students and help promote positive interactions between police and the community.

Current Families to Connect with New Families!

Let's make our new families feel welcomed!  We are looking for current ISLA families willing to make a connection with a new incoming ISLA family.  This family will help the new family with any questions they might have regarding schedules, transportation, uniform requirements, meeting other families, and helping them feel welcomed to our community! If you are interested, please fill this form out and someone from the PTO will contact you.  All grades are needed, but mostly looking for families with incoming kinder and 1st graders. For questions, please contact Casie Budolfson at PTOChair@isla.school.  Thank you!

Registration for school age care in Aventuras is now open to current families.

Please read through the attached paperwork for some major changes to care for the 2021/2022 school year.

Changes:

  • Move from Late Start days to Early Release days (1:15 pm - 4:15 pm) monthly. Student transportation will leave ISLA at 1:15 pm, so students staying for early release care only will need to be picked up at 4:15 pm at ISLA.
  • Longer school day at ISLA (9:15 am - 4:15 pm) Aventuras is open from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm for care.
  • Prepayment of Aventuras fees based on contracted care schedule on the 1st business day of each month. Example, September fees will be billed on September 1, 2021. Credits will be accessed in the following month for vacations, long term illness and closures due to weather.
  • One application per family with all of your students listed on one application.

Please send completed applications to me at aventuras@isla.school.

Thank you,
Jen Jouppi

2020-2021 Yearbooks

ISLA yearbooks should be coming home with your student in the next couple of days (That is if you ordered one). We received the following message from the new yearbook provider that we are using this year.

"I'm writing today to also congratulate ISLA on being a TreeRing Green Yearbook School! Since you've sold 277 yearbooks, we'll be working with our partner, Trees for the Future, to plant that many trees in your school's name."

If you did not order a yearbook, it is not too late. We have a limited amount of softcover yearbooks in the office. They are $20.00. They can be paid for in cash (exact amount needed - there is no cash in the office for change) or check payable to the ISLA PTO. Or you can order one to be sent directly to you by TreeRing. Sturdy Boxes Needed

ISLA is in need of sturdy boxes to pack up our classrooms for the move to the new building. Please bring flattened boxes to the ISLA lobby.

2021-2022 Busing Request

ISLA has signed a contract with Northstar Bus Company to provide busing for ISLA students for the 2021-2022 school year. Please read transportation offerings for more information about what this will look like. If you would like to take advantage of busing transportation for your scholars, click here to sign up. Please register each child separately. We would love to have students registered by May 28th so that the bus company can start routing buses. The deadline to have busing on the first day of the 2021-22 school year is August 1st.

THANK YOU ISLA!

The Unmapped Brewery Fundraiser was a huge success, with ISLA families ordering almost 200 bottles and cans for takeout! We really showed up!!

BIG THANKS to everyone who came out to show support for our school. Cheers!

Are you excited about ISLA's new building? Join the ISLA Affiliated Building Company's Board of Directors!

ISLA ABC, the related entity that owns ISLA's new school building in Edina, anticipates having two openings on its Board of Directors beginning July 1 of this year. ABC board members serve one-year terms and will work in tandem with the ISLA Board to oversee the renovation of the new facility and ISLA’s relocation to that site. Expertise in real estate/property management or finance would be an asset, but is not required.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Liz Crouse at lcrouse@isla.school or 612-716-7448. Thank you!
