Queridas Familias,

I hope this finds you all well, and enjoying the welcome change in the weather.  It is hard to believe that we only have three weeks left of school!  As we navigate this new reality and all of the changes which have ensued, I reflect on how thankful I am for this school community, and how proud I am of the teachers, students, and families who have stepped up to the challenge.

I wanted to give you an update on a few key dates relating to the end of the year at this time.  For those of you who have been in the vicinity of ISLA in the past few weeks, you might have noticed that the city of Minnetonka is undertaking a significant road construction project which has prevented us from confirming some of these end of the year activities until now.

  • After Memorial day, as of Tuesday, May 26th, the normal access road where we normally enter Red Circle Drive from Shady Oak Road will be closed, and the city will temporarily allow two way traffic in and out on the portion of Red Circle Road where we previously only exited the school towards Shady Oak Road.   We will post signs on Shady Oak Road for guidance, and please see the rough map enclosed in this newsletter.

For the last few weeks of school, I would like to encourage all children to participate in all classes to the fullest extent, including specialist’s classes.

  • For the last three weeks of the school year, we are also going to have an optional recess on Zoom for students who are interested in interacting with students from their grade level.  Teachers will be sending out the invites, but here is the schedule: Virtual Recess Schedule
  • At this point, we are still evaluating the feasibility of conducting our regularly scheduled summer camp, but as you know, many camps are cancelling when faced with the challenges of conducting the camps in a manner which complies with public health guidelines. We will make the final decision on this during the coming week.
  • On Thursday, May 14th, the Minnesota Department of Education gave school districts and charter schools the green light to conduct modified Summer School instruction with new guidelines to comply with CDC guidelines and the most recent Executive Order from Governor Walz.   We had already begun to plan accordingly, but we need more assessment data in order to send out invitations for summer school.    One of these important data points for us is information which we get from your child’s Istation assessment. Could you please check to see if your child has taken the most recent Istation Assessment?  Here are the directions to log on:     Istation Access Directions

Thank you for everything you are doing to help us on this journey.

Atentamente,

Jeremy

Dear ISLA Families,

I am very excited to announce that ISLA will have a Virtual Field Day on Friday May 29th!

Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and I feel that in these incredibly challenging times, this is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.

All games and activities are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies. The most important thing is that we all have a fun day exercising and moving.

Here’show it will work:

  • Everyone is encouraged to wear athletics clothes for Field Day.
  • On May 28th, I will post all the activities and games on Seesaw (kinder - 2nd grade) and Google classroom (3rd grade - 6th grade).
  • On May 29th (Field Day) I will have a zoom call in the morning with all the classes grouped by grades, starting with kinder and 1st grade at 9:00 am, followed by 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at 9:30 am and lastly at 10:00 am 5th and 6th grade.
  • Your family will be asked to choose a minimum of 4 activities to complete on Field Day. However, you may complete as many activities as you’d like to.
  • Our entire school will participate in the games, complete a scorecard and share photos and videos on the Facebook private group called “Field Day ISLA” in the album Virtual Field Day 2020.
  • At the end of the day, your kid(s)will submit their scorecard on Seesaw (K-2) or Google classroom (3-6).

I really appreciate your cooperation and I hope that your entire family will participate and find this day as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community.

Stay well,

Igor Díaz

2020/2021 Aventuras – ISLA School Age Care

We are currently accepting registrations for the 2020/2021 Aventuras calendar. Registration for 2020/2021 school year will close on Thursday, June 4th, 2020.

We have made some changes to the registration process this year that will allow us to maintain a robust program with minor program changes for the 2020/2021 school year.

In light of the current pandemic and to help the ISLA community, ISLA has made the decision to keep all of the current care fees the same except for the Late Start fee. Due to this decision, there will be a fee increase in 2021/2022 to keep in line with market standards.

There area few changes for the 2020/2021 school year and they can be found in the body of the application required by all families requesting care.

Here are two important changes:

  • All families are required to be registered in our OnCare Parent Portal with a TAP or automatic payment account. We will no longer allow families to choose a TPD or pay when you want account.
  • Tuition will be prepaid on the first business day of the month based on your student(s) contracted schedule and not their attendance.

Registration for the 2020/2021 school year will be as follows:

All families requesting care must complete the 2020/2021 registration form with a signature and email it to aventuras@isla-academy.org . Applications will be placed in the order received and scheduled according to the guidelines below.

Email confirmations of your application will be sent out within 24 hours of your submission. Applications received over the weekend will be sent confirmation on Mondays.

  • Full-time scheduled care is Monday – Friday:AM, PM or Both.
  • Part-time scheduled care is 1 – 4 scheduled days AM, PM or a Mix.

Priority for scheduling the 2020/2021 school year will be as follows:

  • First – Current Aventuras families with full-time scheduled care during the 2019/2020 school year and continuing full-time scheduled care for the 2020/2021 school year.
  • Second – Current Aventuras families that are changing from part-time scheduled care in 2019/2020 to full-time scheduled care for the 2020/2021 school year.
  • Third – New incoming ISLA families requesting full-time care for the 2020/2021.
  • Fourth - Current Aventuras families with apart-time scheduled care during 2019/2020 and requesting part-time care for the 2020/2021 school year.
  • Fifth – All Current and Incoming families that are new to scheduled care in Aventuras.

** If Aventuras reaches capacity during registration, interested families will be put on a wait list for possible openings in the future. All families will be notified via email regarding your care status for the 2020/2021 school year by the end of June. You will also receive information on how to update and/or enroll in the OnCare Parent Portal.

If you have any questions, please send an email to aventuras@isla-academy.org.
