Administrative Assistant

Greetings from the ISLA Board!

The ISLA Board of Directors met this past October, and as usual we had a full agenda of items to discuss and take action on. Below are a couple of key items which impact all of ISLA’s stakeholders. Please note that a much more detailed account of the Board meetings is available on the ISLA website, including monthly financial reports, PTO & Executive Director reports,  and committee meeting minutes.

  1. As I mentioned during the State of the School address, ISLA continues to conduct a rigorous search for a new home. An ABC Board member provided the ISLA Board with an update on their progress. While ISLA Board & ABC have a multitude of requirements for property selection, the first being a building within a 5 mile radius of our current school. This radius does include locations that are outside of the Hopkins School District such as Edina, Golden Valley, and Minnetonka. Naturally, one of the first considerations for many ISLA families if we were to move would be what your transportation options would be, so the ISLA Board and Administration are actively considering options for enhanced busing should we consider a property outside of Hopkins School District.
  2. The ISLA Board welcomed a new Board Member: ISLA parent Andres Tapernoux, who is filling an existing seat vacancy until elections are held next Spring. We are very excited for Andres to share his passion and expertise with the Board and Finance Committee.
  3. The Governance Committee presented multiple policies for the Board to review and approve. One new policy that was adopted which prohibits any tobacco use including vaping on school property. Prior to being a formal Board policy, we had similar restrictions held in the school’s personnel handbook.

ISLA Board meetings present a great opportunity for the public to participate in ISLA school governance; I would like to request that if you’re ever free on the third Tuesday evening of the month, please consider joining us in the ISLA Library (usually kick-off around 6:30 PM). We appreciate all feedback.  Of course, if you’re not able to attend a meeting,  feel free to connect with any of the Board Directors or Jeremy to share your thoughts.

SUPPORT THE PTO

Looking for easy ways to help support the great work that the PTO does for our kids and their school?  Here are two great options!

Mabel’s Labels:  You can find your child’s things easily in the lost and found by marking them with bright, durable, Mabel’s Labels. Go to https://campaigns.mabelslabels.com/ and click on ‘Select your School/Organization and choose International Spanish Language Academy.  A portion of your purchase will support the PTO.

Amazon Smile: Shop at Amazon?  You can have a portion of your purchase donated to the PTO!  Go to https://smile.amazon.com/ and search for International Spanish Language Academy.  Then just make sure to bookmark AmazonSmile and use it for all your Amazon shopping needs.

Sibling Enrollment

Make sure that your child receives the sibling enrollment priority they are entitled to at ISLA.  Submit an online student application for the sibling of a currently enrolled student by the sibling enrollment deadline of February 10, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  Any student applications for a sibling received after the deadline will follow regular enrollment processes.
