Letter from the Director

(this was emailed to families on July 30, 2020)

Queridas Familias,

As you know, we have been making plans for the three different scenarios for our return to classes this fall, and anxiously awaiting the announcement from Governor Walz this afternoon.  In an attempt to provide  a rapid response to this announcement, our dedicated school board had planned on a Special Board meeting this evening.

However, we now feel that we need some more time to review all the options, the new information from MDE, MDH, and the governor this afternoon, as well as consider the decision by the Hopkins School District, as MDE has issued a ruling about district transportation which will affect our busing options.

For those reasons, we have decided to postpone our Special Board meeting until August 5th, at 6:30 pm. At this meeting, the ISLA School Board will be deciding which scenario ISLA will be adopting for the fall of 2020.

Thank you for everything you are doing to help us on this journey.

Atentamente,

Jeremy

ISLA Spirit Store is Open

ISLA Spirit Store is now open through August 3rd! Order now for late August school delivery. Click here to order! https://isla-pto.square.site/

Style your kid in their grade-level color, or pick the all-school color of black! Either way, it's less to worry about when picking out clothes in the morning.

Did you know that the Spirit Store is a fundraiser for the PTO? Your purchase of uniform approved shirts and sweatshirts will help support PTO sponsored events such as the back to school picnic and roller skating, provide funds for classroom supplies and extra-curricular scholarships, and also supports the LA program.

Please note that while the fall school schedule is uncertain, we cannot process returns. Our vendor needs additional lead time to process our order due to shipping delays.

New Kindergarten Family Mentors

Part of the ISLA tradition is for kindergarten round-up and kindergarten play dates over the summer for incoming kindergarten families.  Due to CoVid 19, the ISLA PTO will not be holding the play dates as normal.  They are working on a strategy to have a current family mentor new families.  If you are a current ISLA family and are interested in mentoring a new family, please contact Casie Budolfson at ptochair@isla-academy.org.  The PTO is hoping to get families connected by early August.

Yearbook Pick up

Did you miss yearbook pickup?  Good news!  I will be offering contactless pickup in Minnetonka near Hopkins High School.  If interested, send an email to ktvedt@gmail.com.

As an alternative,  picking up at ISLA will take place after summer school, around mid-August. Contact and pickup site COVID risks will be mitigated. More info to follow when that becomes an option.

Busing for the 2020-21 School Year

Each year families need to request busing from Hopkins Transportation Department. The transportation department does not automatically assume that if you requested busing last year, you will need it again in the fall. It is very important for families to request busing if they need it. Here is the link to make an online request: https://www.hopkinsschools.org/servicesdepartments/transportation/forms/online-student-transportation-information-form-grades-k-12
