Paola Patiño-Johnson is from Bogotá, Colombia. Although her heart belongs to her homeland Colombia, she really loves living in Minnesota where she has lived for about 10 years. Paola's husband is from St. Cloud, MN. They became parents five and a half years ago of Evan Gabriel and then Owen Leonardo, three years ago. Evan started Kindergarten this year at ISLA. Besides spending time with her children, Paola loves finding quiet time to read. She also loves going for walks, attending plays, visiting friends and listening to all kinds of music. She earned her degree in Second Language Acquisition at Universidad de La Salle in Bogotá-Colombia and completed a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with Grand Canyon University of Arizona in 2013. She also obtained her elementary teaching license through Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota in Spring 2014. When she first started to study World Languages, she was pursuing her passion for languages, and understanding of other cultures. However, through her experience of about 9 years working with the little ones, she has found a countless sense of fulfillment in teaching. Teaching in the elementary grades, brings to her the opportunity to see my students’ constant academic but most especially, personal growth. Her experience working with the elementary grades have made her a part of a child and his/her families' life journey. She feels grateful and excited to be back again at ISLA to teach kindergarten, after staying with her young children for two years. This will be her 7th year teaching Kindergarten at ISLA. Her goal as your child's teacher is to build together a class community of trust, respect, collaboration, and love for learning. She also feels very blessed of having the opportunity of sharing her language and culture with the kids who will do great immersing "en español"
