ISLA Fall Learning Plans

August 10, 2020

Jared Goodwin

Board Chair

Dear ISLA Community:

As you know, on August 6th, the ISLA School Board met in a special meeting to discuss our plans for learning in the midst of this pandemic.   After much discussion and a review of the different hybrid options, the ISLA Board moved to pursue a hybrid model for the fall, specifically model #3 that has each cohort attending 2 days in a row.

The Board will need to review this once we receive additional survey results back from the community and staff, including how many students will opt for distance learning, how many children of Tier 1 workers require childcare, information from Hopkins on their final determination and how that impacts our transportation options, and information from MDH on COVID case numbers for Hennepin County.

Additionally, ISLA administration may consider alternate options for the first week of school as a community introduction week.  The Board will plan to reconvene on August 21st immediately following Hopkins expected announcement on the 20th.

By early next week, we will have a FAQ list on our website which will address the questions that were received during the board meeting and will keep them updated as more questions and concerns develop, and as the situation changes with new data from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education.

Thank you,

Jared Goodwin,
ISLA School Board Chair
